More from HTC: the Wizard, soon coming to Cingular

Cingular 8125The gang at HTC has done it [to me] again: yet another hot device dropping and making it's way (according to engadget.com) to Cingular mid-November.
A mighty impressive device (save the processor), and all for ~$299 (w/ 2 year contract, don'tcha-know). Not too sure about the slider-style keyboards... but for this price I'll certainly make my way into my local Cingular store to get a feeling for the QWERTY-goodness.
Here's a breakdown of the specs:

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition
  • 128MB SDRAM / 64MB Flash ROM
  • GSM / GPRS / EDGE Quad-Band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
  • Class 10 Multi-slot
  • Bluetooth / WiFi / Infrared / Mini-USB / Mini-SD
  • Build-in Microphone and 3D Surround Speakers w/ External Stereo Audio Jack
  • AMR / AAC / WAV / WMA / MP3 / MPEG-4 / H.263 Media Player
  • MMS / JAVA / MPEG-4 Streaming / SVG / PDF / OMA DMA
  • Voice Command / FAX Support
  • GoodLink and XpressMail stub apps in ROM

We'll have to see if anyone's gotten Skype running on this thing (which is a major requirement for any future devices that I purchase (oh, for the want of a Symbian-based Skype so I can just get a Nokia...) due to it's processor speed... Looks like we'll have to see how this puppy plays in the field before we bring her home!

- Update -

The OMAP TI850 200mhz processor that's in this thing is dual-core... making it considerably faster than the (for example) Ipaq hw65xx's 416mhz chip! Woot!
