Had an idea yesterday for a new freeware Lotus Notes application that I think would really help Blackberry and Domino shops... which got me thinking - how many of you are both Domino and BES shops?
This utility application will use a combination of Java and the BES API to... well, I'll go into more details once I get the proof of concept up and running. Let the teaser stand at "it will help Domino + BES shops utilize mobile devices for more than JUST email, without having to write mobile device applications".
On a side note - expect to see a new YouTube demo/tutorial for MixMaster - my Remote Logic-Driven NotesItem Manager (as well as the actual utility application) later today.

Consider me teased. I match your target audience. I'll be curious as to what you come up with. I'd love an easier way to deploy some basic functionality.

We are too. We'd love to do more with BES but don't have the time/resources to write mobile apps (I'm the only developer and I'm busy on other stuff). I'm definitely interested to see what you're putting together.

People are often under the assumption that you need Java to create meaningful BB apps. Not so if you have full BES (not Professional). It comes with (although not usually installed) MDS-IS, Mobile Data System Integration Services. This allows you to use MDS Studio to build fully functional BlackBerry apps using Domino web services (R7 >=). You can use the quick start once you have WSDL in little over a day.
And it is secure. And it is free.

I responded on Twitter but I thought I would make my mark here too. I have a bunch of rabid Blackberry users who are all also Notes/Domino users (not so sure they're rabid about that) with BES on Domino.

Just kidding. We have thousands of BB's rolled out with Lotus Notes.

Chris,
Do you think you could get a beast of a Lotus Notes application to run on a Blackberry? Oh and it's full of Notes 4.6 code!! LOL

Very interested - I have lots of things from Domino I would like to roll out to the Baclberries, but don't have the time to learn how to do it!!!!

You can get any app to run on a device, but you won't like many of them.
Setting expectations for forms or views is important.
Making the app easier than the office based version is important as well.
Just trying to set expectations.
I hate trying to read a poor designed form on my 2-3 inch phone screen.
Having said that, Chris, you and I should talk.

Domino & BES here too. We actually spent plenty of time and resources creating a Mobile Platform with a Designer Studio to make mobilizing Domino Applications easier. Check it out!
