Less than 2 days to the Zombie Apocalypse?!

I've known about the LHC for a while now (the Big Bang Machine), which will be tested on September 10th, 2008. From this summary article:

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), housed in a circular tunnel under the Swiss-French border near Geneva, will recreate conditions just after the so-called Big Bang, which many scientists believe gave birth to the universe.

Now, some physicists feel as though this machine could produce a miniature Black Hole - which could suck our universe inside out. Those concerns have apparently been put to rest as far as the chief scientists are concerned, as it looks like this is on-schedule for September 10th.

So why am I bringing it up here?! Well, this past weekend I went book shopping, and came across a $.99 paperback copy of Brian Keene's The Rising. A great find, as I count myself a fan of the Zombie sub-genre of Horror and Apocalyptic Fiction, for an amazing price!

Being the first time I read it however, imagine my absolute horror when I find (in Chapter 2) that the reason for the zombie uprising is the attempt by physicists - who apparently ignored the warnings much like their real-life Swiss counterparts - to re-create the Big Bang! In the novel, there's no Black Hole as a result of the experiment, but the strange quarks apparently bring about the Undead Apocalypse!

10/09/08 huh?! Sounds like a countdown to the Apocalypse to me! ;-)
