Lotus Knows Facebook Facelift!
11/30/2009 10:42 PM by Chris Toohey
The Lotus Knows Facebook Fan Page has a new default/welcome page - written in FBML - that combines the Lotus Domino Wiki, YouTube, and a few other tricks to give the Lotus Knows Facebook Fan Page a catchy and useful interface: something us yellowbleeders should be used to!
Using the Facebook Static FBML application -- which is available on all Facebook Fan Pages -- I was able to create a simple, informative, and unique welcome/landing tab that will help inform Facebook users (and potential Lotus Knows fans) of exactly what they can expect: news, tips, and information on online and local IBM Lotus events that Lotus Knows you'll want to attend!
HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can be used, but have limits on tag and method support, on Fan Pages via the Facebook Static FBML application. FBML (Facebook Markup Language) helps address some of the gap, allowing you to do things like embed Flash into your Fan Page.
For the curious, here's a quick example of the FBML markup used on the Lotus Knows Facebook welcome/landing page:
<fb:swf
swfbgcolor="000000"
imgstyle="border-width:3px; border-color:white;"
swfsrc='http://www.youtube.com/v/DskEwGx24Xk&
hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0'
imgsrc='http://lh5.ggpht.com/_12_tyvFg0VE/SxSJEk86DkI/
AAAAAAAAAko/1zeLoaRzChY/lotusknowsyoutube.gif'
width='300' height='220' />
If you're already a fan of the Lotus Knows Fan Page, you'll be directed to the Wall tab by default... but you can quickly click on the Lotus Knows Facebook! tab, check it out, and let us know what you think!
